We had the pleasure of welcoming the association of former mayors of the Loire on March 27 for a morning of (re)discovery of the CIS and the health campus. All of them contributed to the Center’s project and its development.
After visiting the laboratories of the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine, participants followed two presentations on the outlook for these entities with great interest.
Vincent Augusto, Director of the CIS, and Stéphane Avril, former Director of the CIS, reviewed the center’s activities before discussing projects based on digital twins and medical devices for personalized medicine (a global vision “from gene to patient via the creation of startups”) with the objective of biomedical innovations with high societal and economic impact.
Professor Philippe Gain, surgeon and director of the Biology, Engineering and Imaging of Corneal Graft (BiiGC) laboratory at UJM, then presented the CRIO, the Ophthalmology Research and Innovation Center, an international project located in the commune of L’Étrat featuring five research platforms.

“Scaling up to face the future”
This meeting, initiated by Noël Paul, former Vice-President of Saint-Étienne Métropole in charge of Higher Education and Research, allowed for a review and outlook discussion more than 10 years after the construction of the Health Innovations Campus.
He recalled Saint-Étienne’s assets in these fields and highlighted the scientific ambition of our activities, which represent a major opportunity for patients and for the metropolitan area.
