Two days of creativity and collaborative engagement brought together 400 students, 16 facilitators, 4 coaches, and a high-performing logistics team on the Saint-Étienne campus on March 5 and 6! The teams successfully met 16 local challenges, proposing concrete concepts and relevant deliverables to project owners—mostly companies and associations—related to health or personal support.

Creativity, exchange, and collaborative work once again illustrated the real-world approach intended by Dynamo Days: a hands-on pedagogy that focused students on their technical specificities.

The issues and the finalization of deliverables demonstrated the diversity and technical nature of the challenges (sometimes very ambitious) across a theme with multiple keywords: Well-being, Health, Prevention, Disability, Pedagogy, Ideation, Patient Experience, Mechanics, Digital, Design, Data Science, Digital, Materials, Electronics, CAD, Prototyping…

Highly innovative solutions were proposed, and some challenges will continue as industrial projects.

The applied pedagogical innovation approach, some examples of challenges to design or implement : a custom-made helmet with electrodes adapted for a bedridden patient; a new type of corset; adaptable wheels for better autonomy; a control box for an electric wheelchair; a connected object or service to support mother and baby upon discharge; a digital plan for a relaxation area; objects connected to gymnastics equipment; a playful tool for teenagers in difficulty; an application for “clothing for all in the hospital”; modular, buildable models for children…

In total, 380 ICM students and 19 students from the Master of Science in Engineering in Prospective Design, 16 professional facilitators, and two fab managers took part in Dynamo Days 2019.

Aude Nyadanu, founder of Lowpital, delivered the opening keynote on the approach “Innovating collectively to improve daily life in hospitals.”

Isabelle Huynh from La Clavette once again supported participants in the positive engineering approach.

Michaël André and Karine Richou, from the pedagogical engineering hub (Mines Saint-Étienne Training Department), coordinated these two days of pedagogical innovation.

“Well done to everyone for your commitment, for the organization, and for the success of this event.”
