Mines Saint-Étienne, representing the DIWII consortium (Digital Intelligence Way for Industry Institute), and Orange signed a partnership on Wednesday, May 19, for the installation of the Orange 5G Lab and IoT (Internet of Things) demonstrators on the DIWII platform at the Campus Région du Numérique in Lyon. The goal is to use 5G and IoT to help companies innovate.

Supporting Companies in Innovation

Mines Saint-Étienne co-leads the DIWII platform with emlyon. It enables companies to accelerate their technological, digital, environmental, and organizational transformations. Marie-Claude Foucré, Orange Regional Delegate, and Pascal Ray, Director of Mines Saint-Étienne and representative of the DIWII consortium, signed the partnership between DIWII and Orange and the establishment of the Orange 5G Lab on Wednesday, May 19, at the Campus Région du Numérique in Lyon. The installation of the Orange 5G Lab at DIWII will enhance the service offering to companies, focusing on high-speed networks and industrial IoT solutions. Objective: to support companies in strengthening their innovation capacity and economic development. Industry 4.0 is at the heart of Mines Saint-Étienne’s strategy. We are the spearhead of Industry 4.0 at Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), France’s leading group of engineering and management schools, of which we are members. ” announces Pascal Ray, Director of the School.

Orange 5G Lab: Testing and Experimentation

Through the Orange 5G Lab, companies will be able to experiment with new 5G applications free of charge using 5G starter kits, 5G terminals and SIM cards, virtual reality headsets, and support from Orange experts. 5G and IoT will enable companies to transition to Industry 4.0. These technologies are essential in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence, and the development of industrial applications.

Faculty researchers and students at Mines Saint-Étienne will have access to the facility for their research and training. For its part, Orange Business Services will develop industrial solutions related to IoT, such as environmental measurement sensors. The research results and innovations developed will benefit companies.

Furthermore, the DIWII platform has other testing spaces such as the Flexible Workshop 4.0 or the Digital Chain platform. Companies will thus integrate their activities across the entire platform, including the Orange 5G Lab. DIWII therefore works in the collective interest and benefits from the expertise of all members, public and private stakeholders committed to the factory of the future.
