Following the departure of Pascal Ray, David Delafosse was appointed, by decree of the Minister for the Economy, Finance and the Recovery, Acting Director of Mines Saint-Étienne. He took up his duties on 1 December. Recruitment is currently underway for a new Director.
David Delafosse, a Mines engineer
Originally from Grenoble, David Delafosse joined the Ingénieur Civil des Mines programme in Nancy in 1988. After a year on the Erasmus programme in Glasgow and a PhD in materials mechanics at École Centrale Paris, he joined Mines Saint-Étienne. From 1995 to 2003, he was a teaching and research fellow and then a professor in Materials Science and Engineering. In 2011, he was promoted to Director of the Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering Center. He held this position for four years, until 2015. Since then, he has been the School’s Deputy Director in charge of Research.
In 2015, when he had just been appointed Deputy Director in charge of Research, he was interviewed by the l’Essor Loire newspaper. He explained: “I am not going to change the School’s identity. The projects are linked to the positioning of École des Mines de Saint-Étienne, a member both of the national and international institution, Institut Mines-Télécom, and rooted […] in its local area and its industry. We will work on these two dimensions through our actions: education, research, transfer to industry.”
