Maxime Lefrançois and Antoine Zimmermann, research professors in the Computer Science and Intelligent Systems department, Henri Fayol Institute, are leading a new research contract for the ETSI SmartM2M group (ETSI STF 578): this project will focus on implementing the standard development methodology and deploying the SAREF community portal for users.

ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), a European standardization body in the telecommunications sector, is working on the implementation of norms and standards related to connected objects, collected data, and applications.

The objective of the project “Specification of the SAREF development framework and workflow, and development of the Community SAREF Portal for user engagement”, conducted in collaboration with researchers from the Ontology Engineering Group department of the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (OEG-UPM), is multifaceted. It will involve:

Maxime Lefrançois and Antoine Zimmermann, research professors in the Computer Science and Intelligent Systems department, are members of the ETSI project team (Specialist Task Force 578) and will lead this European programme.

The SAREF ontology contributes to the digital transformation of industry in Europe, by addressing the challenges related to semantic interoperability on the Internet of Things and web applications.

Maxime Lefrançois completed a long-term mobility placement at OEG-UPM Madrid from March to July 2019. He focused in particular on leading the implementation of Phase 1 of this same project (ETSI STF 556): “Consolidation of SAREF and its community of industrial users, based on the experience of the EUREKA ITEA 12004 SEAS project”.
These two projects promote, within European standardization, the results obtained as part of the European SEAS project (2014–2016).

Two technical reports and one technical specification have also been published:

Maxime Lefrançois will present his work at the ETSI IoT Week in Sophia Antipolis on October 23, a key event that brings together IoT experts, and also as part of a Franco-German expert meeting on digital topics, organized by the Franco-German University (UFA) at Télécom Paris Tech on October 25.
