An ambitious project aims to rehabilitate and restructure the Saint-Étienne premises of Mines Saint-Étienne to create a campus that is even more welcoming and inclusive, future-oriented, and energy-efficient. It will take place over an estimated period of six to eight years.

A monumental project is on the horizon.

A project that will profoundly change the appearance and use of the buildings located at 158, cours Fauriel, in Saint-Étienne.

The “Campus of the Future” project is indeed intended to modernize the historic Saint-Étienne site by adapting it to the new societal, environmental, pedagogical, and research challenges of the coming decades.

More spacious and functional, and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, this campus of tomorrow will give everyone the opportunity to evolve in an ecosystem conducive to their personal and professional fulfillment.

At the time of writing, the project is still in its so-called pre-operational phase. A consultation with a programmer is currently underway to develop the detailed technical programme. This will allow for the launch of the procedure to designate the project manager, who will oversee the execution of the future works.

35.6 million euros: this is the budget required to complete the Campus of the Future project, funded by a State-Region Planning Contract (CPER) including the State, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Saint-Étienne Métropole, and the Loire department.

The transformation of the premises and their uses will require large-scale works. These will take place on an occupied site, in phases, starting from mid-2026.

These works will lead to substantial energy savings estimated at 26% (or 650 MWh), an optimization of available space (24,700 m2), better integration of staff and students, improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility, and, more generally, enhanced attractiveness of the site.

This progress is fully in line with the virtuous objectives set out in the 2023-2027 strategic plan of Mines Saint-Étienne, a responsible engineering school and a driver of innovation with societal impact.

It should be noted that the delegated project management has already been entrusted to the University of Lyon.
