On November 13, a conference was held on sedentary behaviour at work and the risks it entails. Before this event, all School staff were asked to complete a short questionnaire about their work habits.

It emerged that 82% of respondents spend more than 5 hours a day sitting and 53% maintain a sedentary posture for a prolonged period.

The conference led by Guillaume MILLET was therefore very welcome. An exercise physiologist and Professor at Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne, Guillaume MILLET shared his expertise on sedentary behaviour and ways to combat it. He also led a 15-person research group on neuromuscular fatigue at the University of Calgary in Canada, demonstrating that improving quality of life at work is a global issue.

In this regard, Guillaume MILLET has published a book that provides the keys to regaining your energy “when resting is not enough”. Beat fatigue looks at the importance of physical activity and getting moving again. At Mines Saint-Étienne, we understand this well, which is why the School offers sports classes during the lunch break. Pilates, running, strength training—School staff can relax and let off steam during the lunch break, so they can return to work with greater peace of mind.
