On May 21, Mines Saint-Étienne hosted the 2nd edition of the Orano-SPIN Joint Laboratory Annual Day at its premises. A new opportunity to review the progress of this strategic collaboration and to define together the future research directions.

A Strengthened Partnership Dynamic

This day brought together more than 30 participants, including:

  • a delegation of 16 Orano collaborators, led by Bertrand Morel, R&D Director, and Rémy Herbaut, head of the joint laboratory;
  • and 15 research professors, doctoral students, and post-doctoral fellows from the SPIN Center, under the coordination of Ana Cameirao, Director of the Center, and Olivier Bonnefoy, co-head of the joint laboratory.

Following the welcoming remarks by Jean-Paul Viricelle, Director of Research at Mines Saint-Étienne, the morning opened with a review of activities conducted in 2023-2024:
3 PhD theses, 3 postdoctoral positions, several internships, and scientific services marked a year rich in collaborations.

Looking Ahead to 2025-2026: Building Tomorrow’s Projects Together

The afternoon gave way to a collective brainstorming session, where industrial needs and academic expertise were brought into dialogue to envision collaborative projects for the coming year. Objective: to identify high-potential research directions at the intersection of Orano’s challenges and the SPIN center’s expertise.

Laboratory tours and informal scientific exchanges also punctuated the day, in an atmosphere conducive to innovation and knowledge sharing.

See You in 2026!

Building on this strong momentum, both partners have already scheduled their next meeting in May 2026 for the 3rd edition of this annual day. In the meantime, joint projects continue actively, in support of applied research that is rigorous and impactful.
