On Monday, September 6, the Saint-Etienne campus held its climate orientation in partnership with the association The Climate Fresk. 184 ICM engineering students participated in this event in small groups, accompanied by 22 facilitators.

An orientation to raise awareness of climate change issues
For the 3rd consecutive year, Mines Saint-Etienne is organizing its climate orientation. Throughout an entire afternoon, more than 180 ICM students (1st-year and 2nd-year students admitted on the basis of prior qualifications) participated in this event. With the help of a facilitator, they had to reconstruct the Climate Fresk in order to obtain “a clear and systemic vision of climate change, and the complexity and urgency of the situation.” 22 facilitators (students and school staff) and 3 alumni (Pierre, Loïc, and Josué) — involved in “The Climate Fresk” association — came to guide the students.

What is the Climate Fresk?
The Climate Fresk is a collaborative workshop where participants use cards representing the different components of climate change and work together to identify cause-and-effect relationships by positioning and linking them. The Climate Fresk is designed for both novices and experts: the former will discover the subject and deconstruct their preconceptions, while the latter will deepen and structure their knowledge. Indeed, the subject of climate is so complex that there are always new things to learn. The Fresk is based on IPCC reports and provides a global overview of them.
