Cette strat\u00e9gie implique de d\u00e9velopper des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s innovants pour permettre le retraitement des combustibles MOX (oxyde mixte d\u2019uranium et de plutonium) us\u00e9s \u00e0 des cadences industrielles. Une des solutions envisag\u00e9es consiste en un traitement thermique oxydant, qui permettrait d\u2019extraire le combustible us\u00e9 de sa gaine en amont de la dissolution pour accro\u00eetre sa r\u00e9activit\u00e9 au contact de l\u2019acide nitrique. L\u2019id\u00e9e est de tirer parti des transitions de phases r\u00e9sultant de l\u2019oxydation pour provoquer l\u2019effondrement du combustible en poudre. La r\u00e9partition du plutonium au sein de la microstructure des combustibles MOX actuels est toutefois h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e8ne. Comprendre le comportement \u00e0 l\u2019oxydation de ces combustibles implique donc de comprendre celui des principales \u00ab&nbsp;pseudo-phases&nbsp;\u00bb qui les constituent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour cela, l\u2019approche retenue dans cette th\u00e8se a consist\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9tudier l\u2019oxydation de quatre compos\u00e9s mod\u00e8les (CM) U<sub>1-y<\/sub>Pu<sub>y<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub> incorporant diff\u00e9rentes teneurs en Pu (y = 0&nbsp;; 0,11&nbsp;; 0,27 et 0,44), repr\u00e9sentatifs des \u00ab&nbsp;pseudos-phases&nbsp;\u00bb d\u2019un combustible MOX. Les objectifs de ces travaux \u00e9taient notamment d&#8217;\u00e9tudier l\u2019effet de la teneur en Pu, de la temp\u00e9rature et de la pression partielle d\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne (pO<sub>2<\/sub>) sur la nature des suroxydes form\u00e9s, leurs cin\u00e9tiques de formation, ainsi que les m\u00e9canismes associ\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019oxydation de UO<sub>2<\/sub> en U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8 <\/sub>a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9e <em>via<\/em> des exp\u00e9riences de thermogravim\u00e9trie sur poudres et sur \u00e9chantillons fritt\u00e9s. Les courbes cin\u00e9tiques obtenues en conditions isothermes (350 \u00b0C &#8211; 600 \u00b0C) et isobares (20 kPa \u2264 pO<sub>2 <\/sub>\u2264 71 kPa), ainsi que l\u2019exp\u00e9rience dite \u00ab&nbsp;des marqueurs inertes&nbsp;\u00bb, ont permis de proposer un m\u00e9canisme d\u2019oxydation de UO<sub>2<\/sub> en U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>. Un mod\u00e8le cin\u00e9tique, capable de reproduire de mani\u00e8re satisfaisante les donn\u00e9es exp\u00e9rimentales, a \u00e9galement pu \u00eatre propos\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de ce m\u00e9canisme. La formation de l\u2019oxyde interm\u00e9diaire U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>7<\/sub> au cours de l\u2019oxydation de UO<sub>2<\/sub> en U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> a \u00e9galement pu \u00eatre mise en \u00e9vidence dans certaines exp\u00e9riences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le suivi des cin\u00e9tiques d\u2019oxydation des compos\u00e9s (U,Pu)O<sub>2<\/sub> en conditions isothermes (350&nbsp;\u00b0C ou 500&nbsp;\u00b0C) et isobares (pO<sub>2<\/sub> = 20 kPa ou 80 kPa) a permis de montrer qu\u2019une augmentation de la temp\u00e9rature permet d\u2019augmenter la cin\u00e9tique d\u2019oxydation, tandis qu\u2019une augmentation de la pO<sub>2<\/sub> n\u2019a que peu ou pas d\u2019effet sur les cin\u00e9tiques ou le rapport O\/M atteint apr\u00e8s oxydation. La nature des suroxydes form\u00e9s lors de l\u2019oxydation des compos\u00e9s (U,Pu)O<sub>2<\/sub> d\u00e9pend de leur teneur en plutonium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats ont montr\u00e9 que la limite de solubilit\u00e9 du Pu dans la phase U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> est proche de 11 %.
