Applications for Eco-efficient Industrial processes: to produce and use cleaner, safer, and efficient energy

This Master of Chemical Engineering is also partly focused on the study of industrial processes in relation with solid reactions (particles, powders, granular and porous media): studies ranging from micro to macro scale “From particles to processes”.

For information purposes, the detailed provisional 2017-2018 expenses:

For your Internships of 6 months in a department of the SPIN Centre, you will receive a grant around the value of 3000 euros.

Applicant at M1 level (taught in French)

Prior successful completion of Bachelor degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

Level B1 (CEFRL - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in French language is required.

If you don’t have this level, we propose you to obtain it via a two months period of intensive courses “Summer School Program - Nantes campus” in the city of Nantes, or following locally the courses . You have to anticipate a cost of 1600 euros for the eight weeks of courses plus the living cost in the city of Nantes or Saint-Etienne

Applicant at M2 level (taught in English)

Prior successful completion of the M1 level, or a first year of a Master’s Degree in theoretical and / or applied science, or equivalent diploma (at the home university or Ecole des Mines) /or 240 ECTS validated

 

M1 Program

A good command of French is mandatory. It is evaluated by a skype discussion before your admission.

If you are not French Speaker (with a minimum B1 level), you follow up firstly a two months period (July-August) of intensive French courses, in Nantes City or St-Etienne City depending on you. Then you have a four month period of intensive scientific courses (September to December) then a three months period of fulltime laboratory internship (January to Mars) and finally a three months period (April to June) of 30% courses and 70%  laboratory internship.  In January, you begin to receive a grant of 500 euros/month for your laboratory internship during 6 months.

Water management in urban environments

Activities classified for the protection of the environment (42 heures)

Improvement of environmental and energy efficiency performances of enterprises (42 heures)

Industrial and territorial ecology (33 heures)

In the same time (September to December), you follow the toolbox “process Design” (80h, 12 ECTS), given in the English language (Syllabus at http://www.emse.fr/DF/en/xx135.php)

Polyphasic reactors  [Transfers (18h), Reactors (15h) and Unit operations (15h) ] : 6 ECTS)

Chemical Engineering of Heterogeneous reactors [Reactivity of solids, Design of reactors, 33h] : 6 ECTS

In January, you begin your Internships of 6 months in the SPIN laboratory (30 ECTS). You receive a grant of 500 euros/month during this 6 months period. Before that, you will take time to discuss with the head of each of the 3 departments to optimize a subject you like, both for the sciences and applications.

Mid of March to End of May, in parallel to your internship, you follow a toolbox of 40h for 6 ECTS

  • the Toolbox TB1 “Measurement and Control”, 40h, 5 ECTS, given in the French language (syllabus given at http://www.emse.fr/DF/en/xx101.php)
  • OR the Toolbox TB1 “Physical methods for matter characterisation”, 40h, 5 ECTS, given in the French language (syllabus given at http://www.emse.fr/DF/en/xx104.php)
    • Light-matter interaction
    • Morphological and structural analyses
    • Physico-chemical analyses
  • The Toolbox TB2 “Advanced fluid mechanics”, 40h, 5 ECTS, given in the French language (syllabus given at http://www.emse.fr/DF/en/xx96.php)

Mid of March to End of May, in parallel to your internship, you follow the “Energy Defy – Part I” (80h, 12 ECTS) (Syllabus at http://www.emse.fr/DF/en/xx244.php)

Energy scenarii and Geo-political Energy Strategy (12h) : 2 ECTS

Oil refining (24h)  and Nuclear fuel cycle (16h) :  5 ECTS

Building Energetic efficiency (30h) : 5ECTS

M2 Program

The teaching material are in English Language. The spoken language can be English, or French. It depends on the candidatures and their origins. A good command of English or English is mandatory. It is evaluated by a skype discussion before your admission.

You have firstly a three month period of intensive courses (September to December) then a three months period of laboratory internship (January to Mars) and finally a three months period (April to June) of 30% courses and 70%  laboratory internship.  In January, you begin to receive a grant of 500 euros/month for your laboratory internship during 6 months.

Process simulation & Advanced thermodynamics:  Focus on fluid thermodynamics, Focus on flowsheeting and simulation (6 ECTS)

Heat Generation : fission and nuclear reactor , combustion (4 ECTS)

Applied fluid mechanics for industry (6 ECTS)

Classical systems for electricity generation : Rotating and Electric (4ECTS)

In the same time (September to December), you follow the “Energy Defy – Part II” (Syllabus at http://www.emse.fr/DF/en/xx244.php)

Solar Energy (18h) and Biomass Energy (21h) : 5 ECTS

Production and Management of Renewable Energy [Wind Energy (9h), Storage and Smart grids (30h)] : 5ECTS

 

*In the same time (September to December), if you are a student directly admitted at the M2 level, you have to validate the toolbox “process Design” given in more detail previously (or half the toolbox depending on your former education at the M1 level).
